Local Soccer Players Kick It To Cancer
August 4, 2009 Cary High School
On Saturday August 15th, ten high school soccer teams will be playing a series of exhibition games to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The mission of the St. Baldrick's Foundation is to raise awareness and funds to cure kid's cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. All games will be played on the 2 synthetic turf fields at CASL's WRAL complex in north Raleigh.
Last year's Kick It To Cancer event raised $9,000 for the Jimmy F Foundation. We are excited to be partnering with the Carolina Railhawks and the St. Baldrick's Foundation this year. In addition to playing some competitive soccer on great fields to raise funds for a valuable organization, each team will receive 25 t-shirts and 25 complimentary tickets to the Railhawks' September 12th match vs the Puerto Rico Islanders at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. As is tradition with St. Baldrick's fundraising efforts, we will be hosting a head-shaving event that players and spectators are welcome to participate in. For more information on the St. Baldrick's Foundation, please visit www.stbaldricks.org.
The event is FREE for spectators. Panther Creek and Railhawk volunteers will be on hand to accept donations at the gate and head-shaving area. 100% of donations collected at the event are sent directly to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The Railhawks will also be selling discounted tickets for their Saturday, September 12th game vs the Puerto Rico Islanders at the event. This figures to be a great game between 2 of the top 4 teams in USL 1.
A strong field has been assembled, including 8 playoff teams from 2008. Each team will play a series of 3, 50-minute games. Each team will also have an opportunity to play on the stadium field. Concessions will be available for sale for players, parents and fans, including hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks.
