Home » Football NewsCary tames Middle CreekOctober 13, 2008 By David Maney II of Cary High SchoolThe CHS Varsity Football team is definitely finding to their liking playing in front of their home crowd. In their last two home games, they have posted two wins and outscored the competition by the 68-27 margin. Both were within conference which makes the victories even bigger. Their latest opponents at home were the Mustangs from Middle Creek High School. Being homecoming night, Cary wanted to make this something special. Made it special they did, as they built up a 34-0 third quarter lead en route to a 34-7 win over MCHS. Cary opened the game with the ball and went three and out with their first possession. Following a Will Gilfillan punt to the MCHS 39, the Mustangs moved the ball back up field in 6 plays covering 32 yards. But came away with nothing as Junior Kicker Matt Frongello's 46-yard field goal came up short giving the ball back to the Imps at their 20. Cary opened their drive first and ten, with a 11-yard run by Sophomore Running Back Tommy Robinson to the CHS 31. Following a 3-yard loss by Junior Wide Out Rakeem Chambers, Senior Quarterback Daniel Steed found Junior Tight End Blake Beazlie for an 18-yard reception and another CHS first-down to the CHS 46. Senior Wide Out Bryan Wilson put Cary into Mustangs territory with a 11-yard run to the MCHS 43 and another first-down. Robinson got the call on the next two carries covering 19-yards, 9-yards and 10-yards, to the MCHS 24 and first-down. Junior Running Back Ralph Chapman capped off the 9-play, 80 yard drive running the ball on the next three plays covering 24 yards, 14-yards, 5-yards and 5-yards, the last five for the touchdown with 2:55 left in the first-quarter. Gilfillan converted the PAT making it 7-0, CHS. The Imps did the unexpected on the ensuing kick-off as they did an on-side kick which they recovered on the MCHS 45. From there it took only 4-plays to cover 45-yards in 2:15. Robinson opened the drive with a 6-yard run, then Chambers rambled ahead for 11 more yards and another CHS first-down to the MCHS 28. Chapman carried for 4-yards on first-down to the MCHS 24. On 2-and-6, Chapman got the call and ran it to the MCHS 12, but fumbled the ball which was recovered by Senior Tight End Chris Barfield at the MCHS 2 and ran it in for the score. Gilfillan converted the point after attempt making it 14-0 with :41 left in the first quarter. The Imps opened the second quarter putting more points on the board after Wilson recovered a fumble by MCHS's Dequan Render off the ensuing kick-off. After no-gain on first, and 3-yards by Robinson on second, Cary went backwards as an Illegal block penalty pushed them back 10-yards making it 3rd and 15 from the MCHS 31. From there the Imps went to the air as Steed found Junior Wide-Out Lucas Edmisten over the middle for a 31-yard touchdown pass connection. Gilfillan was good with the point after making the score, with 11:10 left in the half, 21-0, CHS. CHS got more points very quickly off another turnover, this time an interception by Wilson on the CHS 48, which he ran back 13-yards in Mustang territory to the MCHS 39. After yard losses by Robinson and R. Chambers, Junior Running Back Dujuan Chambers broke loose for an 11-yard gain to the MCHS 30. Following a Cary time-out, Wilson completed out the series with runs of 6-yards, 22-yards and 2-yards, the last two for the score and the four touchdown lead. Gilfillan split the uprights with the PAT making it 28-0, CHS, with 7:14 left in the half. Middle Creek had three more possession and Cary one more but neither team posted more points on the board leaving the half-time score set at 28-0, CHS. The only score in the third quarter was put up by CHS as they put together an 8-play drive that covered 61-yards that took 4:18 off the clock. Cary started their drive on their own 39, where Robinson broke loose for a 26-yard run to the MCHS 35 on first down. Chapman followed with a big run of his own for 11-yards to the MCHS 24 and another first down. Wilson and Robison ran for 4-yards and 3-yards respectively before Wilson completed the drive running four more times for 17 yard, the last five for the touchdown. Gilfillan's kick was wide, making the score, 34-0, CHS. The Mustangs ruined Cary's Homecoming shut-out bid as they put together an 8-play drive covering 67-yards in 1:24 culminating with a 20-yard pass play between Quarterback Max Drisko and Wide-Out Marvin Mackey. Frongello's PAT was good making the score, 34-7, CHS, with :30 left. After receiving the kick-off, Steed came out and took a knee to close out the game and the 34-7 win over the Mustangs giving the Cary faithful something cheer about as they cleared out of the Cooper field stands. This was a critical win for the Imps as they head into two huge cross-town rival games in the next couple of weeks. Next Friday, they travel over to Green Hope to take on the Falcons on their Homecoming Night. Then return home the following Friday, for Senior Night, as they face the Cougars from Apex High School.
