Coach's Thoughts on Sanderson Game
March 8, 2009 By Laura Kerrigan of Cary High School
I was very pleased with the way the team made adjustments in the second half. We talked about playing diagonal balls over their back line at halftime and it was great to see our best scoring opportunity come directly off of a great bending ball played by Becky DeNardis directly into Kelly Glendenning's run. We talked about closing the gaps in the back and we did a better job of that, as well. Annie McHenry had a fantastic game in goal for us. She has to be one of the best goalkeepers in the state this year. I thought our back line did a great job too, especially given the fact that it was Channing Dyson's first game with us, as she and CC Risk just joined the team last week after finishing out the basketball season. Victoria Coranado, Laurie Anderson and Emma Anderson all did a great job of assimilating Channing into the back line. Vic, especially, stood out for her tireless effort winning balls. I think those players are going to be the backbone of a very strong back line for us. I though Erin Beasley stood out and made a big difference up front for us. We were able to get better pressure on our opponent's back line in the second half and I think Erin, Kelly, CC, and Holly McKay contributed greatly to that. We moved some players around during the game, and I think we have a better idea of who works better for us at different positions. For example, Kristin Nagy made a big difference for us in the midfield. Hope Pittard gave us some great minutes off the bench, as well as Emily McKay, Paige Kochuyt, Sadie Basnet and Erin Sharber. It was good to get a bit more experience for each of these players. We were much stronger in the second half than in the first, so that is a good sign that we are continuing to improve as we make adjustments. This is an extremely coachable group of players and they do a good job of executing the coaching points and incorporating them into the game. |
