It was a solid win for us last night against Middle Creek.
I was very happy with the way we played, especially the first 20 minutes of each half. I thought we moved the ball around the field well, switching the point of attack and creating some good scoring chances.
Erin Beasley scored on fantastic shot from 20 yards out early in the game, but we didn't stop there. We kept attacking and created a couple of more opportunities right after that, especially through CC Risk's ability to get behind the defense.
Annie McHenry had another outstanding game for us in goal, coming off her line to make a huge save late in the first half, and other key saves throughout the game. We moved some players around this game in a new formation and I think the players did an excellent job adapting to it.
We were able to get a bit more pressure on our opponent in the front half of the field, and that took a little more pressure off of our defense. Emma Anderson, Laurie Anderson, Vic Coranado, and Kelly Glendenning all played very well for us in the back. Vic had a couple of headers late in the game that helped keep the ball out of our net.
We moved Channing Dyson into the midfield this game, and she was able to help us win more balls in the middle and free up Becky DeNardis to be more of an offensive presence for us. Kristin Nagy had an excellent game for us on the flank, along with Holly McKay, who created some fantastic scoring opportunities late in the game.
Paige Kochuyt, Erin Sharber, Hope Pitard and Sadie Basnet all gave us some great minutes in the first half to keep the pressure on Middle Creek.
The last few minutes were a bit harried, especially when the PA system failed and the clock ran past the allotted game time, but we held strong (all except for me, of course, who almost had a heart attack trying to alert the center referee to the fact that the game was over!). All in all, it was our best effort yet, but we will be stronger as we continue to improve throughout the season.
