Cary - The Imps Varsity Baseball team came into Friday night's game with hopes of keeping alive their post-season chances as they took on cross-town rivals the Falcons from Green Hope.

Starting Pitcher Max Povse sent a short bloop fly to second for the first out, then First baseman Michael Sondag flew to deep left field far enough to score Brady from third. Left fielder Joe Pistacchio struck-out to end the inning for the Falcons but not before they put a run on the board.
Cary, (3-7, 6-14), answered right back getting a run in the bottom of the inning.
Starting Pitcher Hunter Carr reached on a walk and advanced to second on an infield single by Second baseman Braden Wojciechowski. Carr stole second putting runners on the corners for Designated Hitter Josh McCauley.
McCauley ended up walking but not before Carr scored on a steal attempt by Wojciechowski. Both runners were safe at second and home. Up next was Shortstop Stephen McKinney who grounded to second hitting into a double play opportunity for GHHS. Third baseman Nick Kondor flew out to center to end the inning for the Imps.
The second inning starting off with a bang for Green Hope as Right fielder Adam Boghosian tripled to right. Designated Hitter Matt Nusbaum reached on a walk, and moved to second when Boghosian was tagged out at third on a rundown play between Catcher Joe Costin and Kondor for the first out. Third baseman Nolan Poythress singled down the line to right scoring Nusbaum from second.
Following a fly-out by Catcher Anthony Colantino for the second out, Brady single to left and Shambley was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Povse who single to left centerfield bringing in Poythress, Brady and Shambley to give the Falcons a four run advantage. Sondag flew out to right to end the inning.
Cary was quiet in the second only getting an infield single from Costin and a single from Right fielder Tony Sanchez.
Neither team put an offensive threat together until the fifth when both teams scored in their respective half of the inning.
Shambley got the fifth off and running for GHHS with a single back up the middle. Povse grounded back to Blake Beazlie, who now was on the mound for the Imps, for the first out. Sondag struck-out for the second out. Shambley scored on a passed ball late in the inning for the Falcons only run as Boghosian flew out to right to close out the inning.
The bottom of the 5th was when Cary had their big offensive explosion as they put three runs on the board making it a two run difference.
First baseman Percy Evans opened the inning flying out to center. Sanchez, who went 3 for 3, singled to right to put a runner on. Carr singled with a bloop single over the second basemans head moving Sanchez up a base with only one out.
Wojchiechowski, 2 for 4, reached on an error by Brady at short as the hard shot it off the inside of his glove and into center allowing Sanchez and Carr to score. McCauley and McKinney both reached after being hit by pitches, then Kondor hit a deep fly to left scoring Wojchiechowski from third. Center fielder Eric Pilecki struck-out to close out the inning, but not before CHS make it a two run game at 6-4.
GHHS put two more runs on the board in the sixth.
Following back-to-back walks by Nusbaum and Poythress, Brent McLeroy grounded to first for the first out after Cary switched pitchers putting Cal Foshee on the mound. Following an intentional walk to Brady to load the bases, Shambley reached on a fielders choice bringing in Nusbaum. Povse hit a sacrifice fly to center bringing in Poythress from third. Sondag closed out the inning flying out to right.
Following a ground-out by Costin to short to start the bottom of the sixth, Evans singled to right. Sanchez followed doubling to the left field corner scoring Evans from second. Carr struck-out and Wojciechowski flew out to close out the sixth.
